Bronchos Return To Action Saturday

Central Will Compete In First Meet At Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma track & field team will open the 2020-21 Indoor season Saturday at the MIAA Rust Buster hosted by Washburn at its new indoor facility. It will be the first official meet to take place in the facility.

Central Oklahoma is sending a 24-person contingent to Washburn. The Bronchos will feature 14 returners and 10 newcomers. Of the 14 returning for UCO, that includes veteran jumper Abena Sey. Sey was an Outdoor All-American as a freshman and last season, was in route to the NCAA Division II national championships in March when the health crisis shut down the world.

Sey has three career victories and 30 career top-10 finishes. Her 1.71-meter jump last season earned her a second national championship bid in her second season with the program.

Another veteran in the Broncho track & field program that will be competing this weekend is Skylar Standokes. A fourth-year standout, Standokes brings a team-high 33 career top-10 finishes, 21 more top-five career finishes, and three career victories.

Junior Bailey Christiansen, with 18 career top-10 finishes, will also be competing. And Arizona Hummingbird, who has 14 career top-10s, one victory and two runner-up performances, will be back in action for the Bronchos this weekend.

Kelsie Begansky (seven), Jasmine Hopkins (five), and Sierra Munoz (five) all bring veteran experience to the lineup as well with a handful of top-10 finishes.

Central Oklahoma will be on the track and in the field each of the next five weekends. The Bronchos will visit Northwest Missouri next weekend and Pittsburg State after that before a return trip to Northwest and a second trip to Washburn in February. The 2021 MIAA Indoor Championships will also be held in Topeka the final weekend in February.
