SAN DIEGO, Calif. – A soon-to-be Broncho made a big splash this weekend in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Summer Circuit at the Barnes Tennis Center with University of Central Oklahoma incoming freshman Blythe Buntrock taking second in the tournament.
The Oracle ITA Summer Circuit provide's incoming freshmen and collegiate players the chance to compete in the summer months. The events are "open" due to NCAA guidelines to all ITA members. The circuit is made up of over 30 events during the summer, concluding with a championship in August.
Buntrock, from Las Vegas, Nevada, will be on campus this fall and suiting up in the Bronze & Blue. The right-hander won her first four matches this weekend before falling in the championship.
Buntrock won 6-3, 6-4 in the Round of 32. She made comeback victories in both the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals, winning 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) and 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) respectively. Buntrock then won 6-3, 6-1 in to reach the championship match.
She would ultimately fall there by a score of 6-2, 6-4 and earn the title of runner-up.
Buntrock, from Coronado High School, is a former state champion.
