Central Has Five WGCA All-American Scholars

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association announced Monday its 2019-20 All-American Scholars and five University of Central Oklahoma student-athletes were named to the prestigious list.

Sydney Roberts, Madison O'Dell, Faith Stewart, Susana Olivares, and Emma Shelley each were named All-American Scholars following exceptional work in the classroom over the past year. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team is a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50.

"I'm proud of these young ladies because they not only work so hard on and off the course, but also because this spring was such a challenge for them and everyone else," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "To be forced into online school, or alternative learning, when you didn't sign up for it and to have to do that after having your season ripped away from you, I'm really proud of how the team responded."

Roberts is a senior from Brownwood, Texas who will return for a fifth year after losing part of her senior season due to the global health crisis. O'Dell (Owasso) and Stewart (Oklahoma City) are both sophomores and will also get that year back in 2020-21. While freshmen Olivares (Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico) and Shelley (Bartlesville) will do the same.
