Men's Golf Adds Two Standouts To 2020-21 Roster

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma men's golf team announced the addition of two standouts to the 2020-21 squad. Luis Chavez and Caleb Kimmel are set to join the Bronchos this fall.

"I'm excited for these young players to come in and be behind some of the best players in the Central Region," UCO head men's golf coach Josh Fosdick said. "The lack of pressure to play immediately should help them grow and become the next generation of Broncho greats."

Chavez, from Palmhurst, Texas, brings a stellar game to Central. The Sharyland Pioneer High School star earned All-District honors and All-Valley honors all four years and was a Class 5A state qualifier as a junior. He had one tournament win during his senior season and had the team poised for a return trip to state when the season was cancelled.

"Luis is a bit of a dark horse," Fosdick said. "He is a top 20 player out of Texas but wasn't recruited heavily out of the valley, so I think that chip on his shoulder is going to be a huge inspiration for him. He comes from UTRGV hall of fame lineage and that athleticism is going to be huge for him as he jumps to the next level."

Kimmel, from Olathe, Kansas, also brings a stellar game to Central. The Olathe East standout earned Class 6A Kansas State Golf Association All-State honors during his junior season. He helped the team to a third-place finish at the state tournament as well that season. Kimmel is also a four-year state qualifier.

"Caleb is a great talent," Fosdick said. "He is going to benefit tremendously from being around our upperclassmen. His ability to keep the ball in play while demonstrating a very accurate long game is going to be a huge asset for him as he transitions to college golf."
