Men's Golf

Central Heads To Vegas

The Central Oklahoma men's golf squad treks to Las Vegas this week to compete in the Warrior Vegas Invitational hosted by Winona State.

The two-day, 36-hole tournament tees off Monday at the 7,120-yard, par-72 Stallion Mountain Golf Club, with the final round set for Tuesday.

It's the third tournament of the spring season for the Bronchos, who won their first event at the Houston Classic before finishing sixth at the Saint Leo Invitational two weeks ago.

"There's a smaller field in this tournament, but there are some teams from our region and that's good for us," head coach Josh Fosdick said. "The golf course should be another good test for our all-around game. Our putting needs to be better than our last outing and if that happens I feel good about our chances."

UCO has finished in the top six in five of six tournaments during this year. Making up the five-man team will be senior Joe Lemieux, juniors Jacob Lackey, Kylian Cavdar and Yannic Oppenheimer and freshman Evan Griffith.

Lackey leads the Bronchos with a 72.50 scoring average and four top-15 finishes. He tied for 13th with a 219 total in UCO's last tournament at Saint Leo.

Lemieux carries a 73.88 average with a pair of top-20 placings. Griffith is at 74.17, Oppenheimer 74.90 and Cavdar 76.0.

Central will return home to host the Broncho Invitational next Monday and Tuesday, March 16-17, at Oak Tree Country Club.
