The Central Oklahoma men's golf team makes its spring debut this week when the Bronchos head to Humble, Texas for the Houston Golf Classic hosted by Southern Nazarene.
Â
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the Golf Club of Houston, with 36 holes on tap Monday followed by Tuesday's final round.
Â
UCO – which had top-five finishes in three of its four fall tournaments -- will have a lineup of seniors Blake Murray and Joe Lemieux, juniors Jacob Lackey, Yannic Oppenheimer and Kylian Cavdar. Freshman Evan Griffith will compete as an individual medalist.
Â
"We're just excited to get going," head coach Josh Fosdick said. "The guys' approach so has me very excited for what's to come. They look hungry and I think feel like they could have underperformed this fall. I think they are ready to have a big spring."
Murray led the Bronchos in the fall with a tidy 71.4 scoring average. He shot between 68 and 74 in every round and had three top-15 finishes in the four tournaments.
Â
Lackey had a pair of top-15 showings in the fall, including a runner-up finish at the Missouri Southern Invitational. He had three rounds in the 60s and ended with a 72.4 average for the four events.
Â
Lemieux had a 73.2 fall average with one top 10 finish, Oppenheimer had one top 20 outing in two events in compiling a 76.0 average and Griffith had a 73.0 average in one tournament. Cavdar will be playing his first tournament of the year for the Bronchos.
