Central Ends Season's Road Slate At Fort Hays

HAYS, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma women's basketball team is set to play its final road game of the 2019-20 season Saturday when the Bronchos take on Fort Hays State at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

Central Oklahoma is 15-7 on the season overall and has a 9-7 record in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play. UCO is aiming to ease the burden of a slump. The Bronchos have lost four out of five after a 14-3 start to the season.

Kelsey Johnson's 13 points per game continues to lead the Bronchos, as does the junior's 6.7 rebounds per game. Johnson leads the team in several categories, including field goals made (114), free-throws made (53), free-throws attempted (66), rebounds (147), and blocks (30).

Micayla Haynes, 11.6 points per game, also leads the Broncho offense. The senior guard has a team-high 38 made 3-pointers this season and is second on the team with 36 steals.

Shatoya Bryson leads the team with 47 steals through 22 games. Bryson averages 8.3 points per game, which ranks fourth on the team. Her 30 made 3-pointers are second behind Haynes.

Jaci Littell is the third leading scorer for the Bronchos. The freshman from Stillwater, Okla. averages 9.2 points per game, has 27 made 3-pointers this season, and also 27 steals in 20 games played.

Central Oklahoma uses a strong bench to aid in both the offense and the defense this season. That effort is led by Brooke Rayner. Also from Stillwater, Okla., Rayner averages 7.0 points per game and is third on the team with 30 steals.

Fort Hays State averages 76.4 points per game this season, but the defensive effort is where the Tigers earn their stripes. Hays allows just 56.8 points per game for a plus-19.6 scoring margin. Kacey Kennett (12.5), Jaden Hobbs (11.5), and Taylor Rolfs and Belle Barbieri (10.9), all lead the offensive charge for Fort Hays. Barbieri's 8.9 rebounds per game leads the team.

Fort Hays State owns the all-time series lead and has won three in a row. The Bronchos beat Hays 72-70 in Edmond in the 2017-18 season.

Central Oklahoma will play its final four games of the regular season at home, and over a three-week period. UCO hosts Newman next Saturday, Emporia State the Saturday after that, and will end the season with a pair of home games against Nebraska Kearney and Hays on the final weekend of this month.
