Bronchos Fall To No. 2 McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. (Feb. 12) – No. 6-ranked Central Oklahoma had a six-match winning streak snapped Wednesday night with a hard-fought 20-12 loss to No. 2 McKendree.

The Bronchos won four of the 10 matches and were within 14-12 after 184 pounds, but the Bearcats won the final two weights to secure the win. UCO fell to 11-2 on the season.

"It was a good, tough match and we just came up a little short," head coach Todd Steidley said. "We wrestled hard, but McKendree has a great team and they were just better than us tonight."

Central got wins from 133 Noah McQuigg, 141 Nate Keim, 149 Zachary Moore and 184 Heath Gray.

Fifth-ranked Tanner Cole fell to No. 2 Marcus Povlick 5-3 in the first match at 125, but the Bronchos won the next three weights to surge in front.

McQuigg pulled out a 7-5 win at 133 on a reverse with three seconds left, Keim had a pair of takedowns in a methodical 6-2 decision at 141 and Moore used a four-point move late in the second period to pave the way to a 9-7 victory.

That gave the Bronchos a 9-3 lead, but McKendree took the next three matches – scoring a fall at 165 – to grab a 14-9 lead.

Gray won his 25^th consecutive match at 184 with a tough 3-1 win to pull UCO within 14-12 before the Bearcats took the last two weights.

The Bronchos wrap up the dual season and make the final home appearance Sunday, hosting Central Missouri at 2 p.m.
