Bronchos To Host Own Tourney

The Central Oklahoma women's golf team makes a rare home appearance Monday and Tuesday when the Bronchos host the UCO Classic.

Eighteen teams will compete in the 36-hole tournament at the 5,976-yard, par-71 Golf Club of Edmond. Players will go off the No. 1 and 10 tees starting at 8:30 a.m. Monday, with Tuesday's final round a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

Joining UCO in the field will be Southern Arkansas, Southwestern Oklahoma, Harding, Arkansas Tech, Southern Nazarene, Redlands, Oklahoma Baptist, Newman, Central Missouri, Tarleton State, Lincoln, Northwestern Oklahoma, Cameron, Arkansas-Monticello, Fort Hays State, Oklahoma Christian and Arkansas-Fort Smith.

The Bronchos of 12th-year head coach Michael Bond finished fifth in last year's UCO Classic, which was won by Arkansas Tech.

Senior Sydney Roberts, sophomores Madison O'Dell and Faith Stewart and freshmen Susana Olivares and Emma Shelley will make up Central's starting five, while junior Kinsley Hall and freshman Arin Zachary will participate as individuals.

It's the third tournament of the fall season for the Bronchos, who opened with an eighth-place showing at the Tarleton State Invitational before coming in fourth at last week's UNK Invitational.

Olivares has been outstanding in the first two tournaments of her collegiate career, having placed fourth and 10th. She has a 72.0 stroke average for four rounds.

O'Dell fired a career-low 69 in the final round to rally for a fifth-place finish at the UNK Invitational and has a 73.8 scoring average.

Roberts has a 77.3 scoring standard in the early going, while Shelley is at 78.3 and Stewart 78.5.

UCO will have two more tournaments after this, going to the Central Missouri Midwest Classic Oct. 7-8 before ending the fall schedule at the Arkansas Tech Classic Oct. 21-22.
