UCO Finishes Second In Shortened MSSU Invite

MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma men's golf team finished second in the Missouri Southern State Invitational Tuesday after the threat of weather forced the shortening of the tournament to 36 holes. UCO's Jacob Lackey took a second-place individual finish as well.

UCO was 8-under par after two rounds of play Monday before Tuesday's third round was called off. The Bronchos shot a 282 in the first round before a second-round 286.

Lackey shot rounds of 70 and 68 Monday to find his way to second place. Lackey overcame three bogeys and a double bogey in the first round with five birdies and an eagle to open the tournament with a two-under 70. The junior came back in the afternoon with five birdies and a bogey in firing his four-under 68.

Blake Murray joined him with a top-10 finish, coming in 10th after a combined 142 (69-73). Murray made six birdies, including three in a row during one stretch, in starting his day with a three-under 69 and followed with a steady 73 in the second round.

Yannic Oppenheimer had rounds of 70-74, Evan Pennington shot 75-71 and Joe Lemieux 73-84 for the Bronchos, with Peyton Knell shooting 78-72 playing as an individual.

Central Oklahoma will now turn its focus to the Kentucky Wesleyan Fall Invite in Owensboro, Ky. next weekend.
