UCO Ready For Southern Stampede

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma cross country team returns to the course this weekend as the Bronchos visit Missouri Southern State for the 30th annual Southern Stampede at Tom Rutledge Course.

Central Oklahoma will race for the second time this season. The Bronchos finished sixth at the UCO Invitational two weeks ago in Edmond.

Harlie Hanson paced the Bronchos that Saturday morning. The junior raced to a ninth-place finish in her UCO debut, crossing the finish line of the 5k race at Edmond Santa Fe in 19:31.

Central also got top-30 performances from freshman Kelsie Begansky and junior Arizona Hummingbird. Begansky finished 25th with a time of 20:32 while Hummingbird was right behind her in 29th place with a time of 20:37.

Hummingbird's career best time in a 5k race came in Joplin last season when she completed the course in 19:54. In the UCO record books, five of the top eight 5k times in school history were run at the Southern Stampede.

Central Oklahoma will be off next weekend before heading to Stillwater in two weeks for the Cowboy Jamboree.
