Lemieux Opens Regional Play

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (May 9) -- Central Oklahoma's Joe Lemieux struggled on the first day of the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Regional Thursday.

Lemieux made three double bogeys in shooting 81 on the 6,713-yard, par-72 Hot Springs Country Club. Second-round play begins at 8 a.m. Friday and the 54-hole tournament concludes Saturday.

Heavy rain in the area washed out Wednesday's practice round and forced players into a shotgun start Thursday, with Lemieux starting play on No. 18. The sophomore parred three of his first four holes, then made two straight doubles before playing the next four holes one-under. Lemieux was five-over on his next four holes and then closed the round with four straight pars.
