UCO Drops Series Opener At Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team dropped its series opener 6-1 at Lindenwood Friday night in the first of three Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association games at Lou Brock Sports Complex.

Central Oklahoma is 19-12 following the loss and 11-8 in league play. 

"We didn't have the right approach at the plate tonight and that cost us," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "To only get four hits isn't going to get it done. We need to come out Saturday more focused and with a better approach."

Philip Scott managed a pair of singles, and TK McWhertor and Brock Schaffer also had base knocks for Central Oklahoma. Unfortunately for Central on Friday, Lindenwood fanned 13 Broncho batters.

Dylan Hall got the start for the Bronchos Friday, but didn't fare well. He allowed four runs on two hits in the first inning while also walking two. That left UCO down 4-0 after one inning and in a hole that itself would be too much to overcome.

Hall settled in and provided a quality start. He threw seven innings on the night, allowing eight hits and five runs. He finished with seven strikeouts too.

Ty Medina came in out of the bullpen to throw the eighth and struck out two to finish off the night for the Bronchos.

UCO got its only run of the night from Scott, who singled to leadoff the fourth. After McWhertor followed with a single to move Scott over to third base, a wild pitch allowed Scott to score. That made it 5-1. 

Central Oklahoma only managed four hits Friday, and none were for extra bases, but the Bronchos also only drew three walks. Central left six on base.

The teams are back in action Saturday. UCO will play Lindenwood in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
