UCO Moves Up At Conference Tourney

MAYETTA, Kan. (April 23) – Sydney Roberts aced the par-3 seventh hole to highlight a 75 and Central Oklahoma moved up a spot in the team standings on the second day of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Women's Golf Championships Tuesday.

The Bronchos shot 306 in trimming 13 strokes off their first-round score and are fourth in the team standings with a 625 total after two trips around the 5,900-yard, par-72 Firekeeper Golf Course. Central Missouri leads the 10-team field with a 600 total, followed by Northeastern State (609), Nebraska-Kearney (623) and UCO.

Final-round play begins at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Roberts' second straight 75 led the way for the Bronchos. Madison O'Dell recorded a 76, while Yuna Sato shot 77, Makena Mucciaccio 78 and Faith Stewart 85.

Roberts got off to a slow start with a double bogey on No. 2 and bogey on No. 3, but the junior standout got two of those strokes back in a hurry when she holed out on the 148-yard par-3 seventh hole with a 6-iron. She then birdied the par-4 ninth to make the turn at even-par 36.

Consecutive double bogeys on Nos. 10 and 11 dropped Roberts to four-over and again she rallied strong, birdieing the par-4 12th before finishing with six straight pars for a back-nine 39. Roberts is tied for fifth in the individual standings with a 150 total.

O'Dell doubled bogeyed the first hole, but quickly recovered by parring the next eight holes in making the turn at two-over 38. The freshman bogeyed Nos. 10 and 13 to drop to four-over and stayed there by playing the final five holes even-par in coming back with another 38.

Sato had an eventful front nine, carding three birdies, three bogeys, two pars and a double bogey in going out in 38. She offset a bogey on No. 11 with a birdie on the par-5 11th, then had three pars and three bogeys the rest of the way for a back-nine 39 and the 77 that knocked nine shots off her first-day score.

Mucciaccio had a 41 on the front nine and made three more bogeys on the back in dropping to eight-over before finishing with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 – both par-4s – in firing a back-nine 37.
