Bronchos Fifth In MIAA Tourney

MAYETTA, Kan. (April 22) – Sydney Roberts shot a 75 to lead Central Oklahoma on the first day of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Women's Golf Championships Monday.

The Bronchos finished with a 319 on the 5,900-yard, par-72 Firekeeper Golf Course and are fifth in the standings. Northeastern State leads the 10-team field at 300, followed by Central Missouri (304), Missouri Western (313) and Northwest Missouri (317).

Second-round play begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and the 54-hole tournament concludes Wednesday.

Makena Mucciaccio was the only other UCO player to break 80, coming in with a 78. Madison O'Dell shot 81, while Faith Stewart had an 85 and Yuna Sato an 86.

Roberts is tied for seventh in the individual standings, while Mucciaccio is tied for ninth.

Roberts got off to a solid start by parring the first six holes, but then double bogeyed the par-3 seventh and bogeyed No. 9 in making the turn at three-over 39. The junior opened the back nine with consecutive bogeys before going two-under on the last seven holes with birdies on the par-4 12th and par-4 17th to come in with an even-par 36.

Mucciaccio had a double and triple bogey in her first eight holes in shooting a front-nine 41 before rebounding strong. The senior made four straight pars to start the back nine, sandwiched a par on No. 15 between a pair of bogeys and then birdied the par-4 finishing hole for a closing 37.

O'Dell also bounced back after starting slowly with an opening-nine 43. The freshman parred the first three holes on the back, then made two straight bogeys before playing the last four holes even-par to come back with a 38.
