UCO Heads To Conference Tourney

Central Oklahoma's surging men's golf team figures to be a top contender for the team title in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Tournament that begins Tuesday in Monkey Island, Okla.

Thirty-six holes are on tap the first day at the 7,211-yard, par-72 Shangri-La Golf Club beforevthe 11-team tournament wraps up with an 18-hole round Wednesday.

The Bronchos of head coach Josh Fosdick enter the conference meet on a roll, having finished second, third and first in their last three events. UCO captured its first title of the year last week, rallying for a four-shot win at the SBU Bearcat Invitational.

"Our guys have been playing really well the last month or so," Fosdick said. "It should be a great tournament and I'm excited about our chances."

Making up UCO's five-man crew will be seniors Alexander Hughes and Cody Troutman, juniors Joe Lemieux and Blake Murray and sophomore Jacob Lackey.

Murray has been Central's most consistent player this year and has a team-best 72.93 scoring average with five top-20 finishes in 10 events. Lemieux was runner-up at the SBU Invitational after tying for ninth in the previous two tournaments and owns a 73.24 average.

Hughes has also had top-10 finishes in the last three tournaments and carries a 73.76 scoring standard. Troutman has a 74.48 average and Lackey, who came in third at the SBU Invitational, is at 74.63
