Central Oklahoma Finishes Sixth At ESU Relays

EMPORIA, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma track & field team finished sixth at the Emporia State Relays Saturday behind six top-five finishes at what was the second meet of the 2019 outdoor season for the Bronchos.

Central Oklahoma junior Madelyn Caldwell took top honors in the discus, throwing 44.32 meters to claim first place. It is the top mark of the young season for the Bronchos in the discus and only one meter short of Caldwell's personal best. She did set a new PR in the hammer throw later in the day, hitting 42.13 meters for a ninth-place finish there. Caldwell also finished third in the shot put with her 13.16-meter throw.

Another PR for the Bronchos came in the 1500-meter race. Arizona Hummingbird finished second in the event with a time of 4:57. Saturday was the first time the sophomore has broken the five-minute mark and bested her previous top time of 5:01, set two weeks ago.

Chavon Reece also earned a second-place finish Saturday, coming in runner-up in the long jump. Reece, a freshman, hit 5.60 meters Saturday, which is marginally shorter than her PR of 5.61 meters in a first-place finish at Oklahoma Baptist two weeks ago.

Reece also finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.42 seconds. She was part of the UCO squad that finished second in the 4x200 relay. Skylar Standokes, Reece, Savannah Reynolds, and Kaleigh Dyas completed the relay in 1:50 seconds for the runner-up finish.

Central Oklahoma will be back in action next weekend, visiting San Angelo, Texas for the David Noble Relays.
