Maddie Brown, Madelyn Caldwell, Pace Bronchos In Texas

LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Central Oklahoma track & field team competed in the Texas Tech Open this weekend and brought home a trio of top-10 finishes in the event.

Maddie Brown raced to a pair of second-place finishes in the 1-mile run and the 3,000 meters, and Madelyn Caldwell hurled her way to sixth place in the weight throw. The Bronchos also had top-20 finishes for Arizona Hummingbird (mile), Savannah Reynolds (high jump), Caldwell, (shot put), Chavon Reece (triple jump) and Skylar Standokes (triple jump).

Caldwell got the Bronchos started on Friday, competing in the weight throw and the shot put. The junior from Pauls Valley, Okla., who already has an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark of 17 meters, hit 16.41 for a sixth-place finish. She had the second farthest throw among DII competition in the event.

Caldwell also hit 12.62 meters in the shot put, just a meter short of her career mark of 13.66 meters, which is also a provisional qualifying distance this season.

In Saturday's races, Brown continued her stellar senior indoor season. In her final season with the Bronchos, the Jenks, Okla. native raced to a second-place finish in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:08.20, her fastest mile this season. Brown has finished first and second in her two 1-mile races over the past two weeks.

She also ran the 3,000-meter race, and finished second there as well. Brown crossed the finish line in 10:24.95. That mark is her third fastest 3,000 of the season, only one-hundredth of a second slower than what she ran last week in Norman, Okla. at the UCO Open. Brown notched a career-best and school record 10:18.58 in December.

Hummingbird joins Brown in most distance races and did so Saturday in the 1-mile run. In doing so, the sophomore worked to a personal record 5:35.37 in the race. Hummingbird also finished 39th in the 800 meters.

Reynolds, a freshman, finished 11th in the high jump with a mark of 1.59 meters. She was the third-highest Division II jumper in the meet. Reece, also a freshman, leaped to a 15th-place showing in the triple jump, hitting 11.01 meters. That is a personal best for the freshman and a season-high for the Bronchos. Standokes finished 18th in the triple jump with a 10.78-meter mark.

Central Oklahoma returns home and is hosting its next event, the UCO Alumni Classic, on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Mosier Indoor Facility in Norman.
