No. 11 UCO Two-Steps In Texas

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team is scheduled to play two matches this weekend at Angelo State. The 11th-ranked Bronchos will take on ASU on Friday at 2 p.m. before competing against St. Edward's on Saturday at 11 a.m.

UCO is 3-2 on the season with wins over Tampa, Cowley, and Western New Mexico. Angelo State is 6-1 on the season while St. Edward's is 5-1.

Central Oklahoma is led into the weekend by sophomore Paola Landin, who is 5-0 in singles matches this season. The Los Cabos, Mexico native is also 3-1 in doubles play. Landin is part of the 11th-ranked doubles team in the nation, along with freshman Isabella Dunlap.

Dunlap is also the second-rated singles player in the country, but is 1-3 this spring. Dunlap has a team-high 11 wins on the year after a dominant fall semester.

Adel-Byanu Abidullina is 3-1 in singles play this season. Kirtana Bhat and Nikki Boyar are both 3-2.

Central Oklahoma has a 9-5 mark in doubles play and is 19-11 in singles matches this spring.

Angelo State is led by Valentina Gonzalez, who is ranked 43rd in the country, and Ena Ovcina. Gonzalez is ranked sixth in the South Central Regional Rankings and Ovcina is eighth. The two make up the ninth-ranked doubles team regionally.

St. Edward's is led by Beth Hayward and Kate Malezonia. Those two are ranked 10th and 11th respectively in the South Central region. Hayward, and teammate Valentina Martinez, are ranked fifth regionally as a doubles team.
