Central Oklahoma Hosts Missouri Southern

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team will open Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play this weekend with a three-game series against Missouri Southern at Wendell Simmons Field.
 
The Bronchos will host MSSU Friday at 5 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Central Oklahoma is 6-2 on the season and has won five in a row. The Bronchos have not played since defeating Southwestern Oklahoma last Wednesday. Missouri Southern is 7-3 overall and on a four-game win streak.
 
UCO enters conference play averaging 6.25 runs per game. The Bronchos as a team have a .275 batting average.
 
Brice West leads UCO. The sophomore outfielder is hitting .440 through eight games played. He has a team-high 11 hits (two doubles and one home run) and has scored four runs. Philip Scott is hitting .370. The second baseman also has double-digit hits (10) and is one of four Bronchos with a team-high six runs scored.
 
Kyle Crowl (.290) has nine hits, including two doubles and a home run, and has six runs batted in. Paul Kropf is also hitting .290 this season and has nine hits. Kropf has a team-high three home runs.
 
UCO has a team earned run average of 3.30, best in the MIAA, allowing just 3.6 runs per game. The Bronchos have recorded 77 strikeouts in eight games, which is tied for the sixth-best mark in the league.
 
Dylan Hall is 2-0 on the mound for the Bronchos and has a 3.86 earned run average. He has 20 strikeouts in just 14 total innings pitched. Gabe Littlejim (1-1) has a 4.09 ERA and has 14 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched. Landon Bond also has 14 strikeouts in 10 2/3 innings.
 
Missouri Southern boasts a .299 team batting average, with third baseman Freddie Landers leading the way with a .433 average at the plate. He has a team-high 13 hits in nine games. Five MSSU batters have at least 10 hits.
 
For Southern's pitching staff, the team has a 4.24 ERA. Will Bausinger is 2-1 with a 0.59 ERA. He was named MIAA and National Pitcher of the Week this week after throwing a perfect game last Wednesday night.
 
Central Oklahoma will hit the road following this weekend's series with MSSU. The Bronchos play at Oklahoma Christian next Tuesday before an MIAA road series at Northwest Missouri next weekend.
