Bronchos Ready To Host Weekend Games

Streaking Central Oklahoma continues a lengthy homestand this weekend when the Bronchos host the UCO/Oklahoma Christian Invitational.

UCO, 9-1 on the season and winners of five straight, will play four games during the three-day event. The Bronchos open Friday against Northwestern Oklahoma (0-0) at 2 p.m., then meet Newman (1-1) at 2 p.m. and Southwestern Oklahoma (0-2) at 4 p.m. Saturday before finishing against Colorado-Colorado Springs (3-5) at 11 a.m. Sunday.

"We played pretty well last weekend and hopefully we can keep it going," head coach Cody White said. "There's a lot of things we need to improve on, but I like the way this group is determined to get better."

Central has prospered behind a potent offense, with the Bronchos averaging 8.1 runs and 10.1 hits per game. UCO is hitting .373 as team for the season and had a robust .420 average in winning five games at the Raising Cane's Softball Festival last week.

Senior Carli Jones is one of four players batting .400 or better, with the senior first baseman at .484 with three doubles, two home runs and 12 runs batted in.

Senior third baseman JoBi Heath and junior outfielder Hazel Puempel are both hitting .424. Heath has three doubles, two homers and 11 RBI, while Puempel has three doubles and a team-high 14 RBI.

Senior outfielder Bailey Thompson is also hitting .400 and has a scored a team-leading 14 runs. Junior catcher Halley Randolph (.387) and sophomore outfielder Lexy Dobson (.367) are also over the .350 mark for the Bronchos.

Junior Sydney McLeod leads the pitching staff with a 4-1 record and 1.72 earned run average, with the junior having struck out 15 batters and walked just seven in 20.1 innings.

Freshman Bailey McKittrick is 4-0 with a 4.01 ERA.
