Bronchos Third In Midwest Classic

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Oct. 7) – Susana Olivares shot a two-over-par 72 to lead Central Oklahoma on the first day of the Midwest Classic Monday.

The Bronchos finished with a 302 total on the 5,741-yard, par-70 Mules National Golf Club, leaving them tied for third in the 22-team tournament. Northeastern State leads at 295 and Missouri Western is second at 300, with UCO and host Central Missouri tied for third.

Final-round play in the 36-hole tournament begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Madison O'Dell came in with a 74, while Emma Shelley shot 76, Sydney Roberts 80 and Faith Stewart 81.

All five UCO players started their rounds on No. 10 and Olivares was one-under after five holes before bogeying Nos. 15 and 17 in shooting an opening-nine 36.

The freshman sensation birdied No. 2 in getting back to even par and followed with four straight pars before bogeying two of her last three holes for a back-nine 36. Olivares is fifth in the individual standings, three shots behind leader Nina Lee of NSU.

O'Dell got off to quick start with birdies on Nos. 10 and 13, but double bogeyed No. 17 in dropping back to even-par 35 for her first nine. She made five pars and four bogeys on the back nine to come back with a 39 and is tied for 11th in the medalist standings.
