Central Oklahoma Hosts The ITA Regional

OKLAHOMA CITY – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team is set to host the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Tournament this weekend at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.

The Bronchos have hosted the fall's premier event in now three of four years. Last season, UCO hosted the tourney and then freshman Isabella Dunlap won the regional title on her way to the national championship.

Dunlap, now a sophomore, is 10-0 this fall with a small handful of tournament titles already this fall. She won the UCO Invite and the Wyoming Invite.

UCO as a team has played in three tournaments this season and have had tremendous success in the early going. Central has a combined singles record of 47-25 in tournament play and a doubles mark of 21-10.

Paola Landin has gone 7-2 in singles matches, Mariona Franco Martin is 7-3, and Lexi Penn, 6-2.

Dunlap and Landin, an All-American doubles team a year ago, is 3-0 this fall together. Nikki Boyar and Penn are also unbeaten together. Dunlap and Adel-Byanu Abidullina have also teamed up to go 3-1 while Boyar and Landin are 4-1 together.

The ITA Regional is the culminating event in the fall tennis season. The ITA national championship finals will feature the top singles player from each of the eight regions and will take place in two weeks in Rome, Ga.

Dunlap went 5-0 in the ITA Central Regional last fall before winning her first two matches at the ITA national finals to reach the national championship match. She earned a national runner-up finish there.
