Bronze Pins Blue In UCO Intrasquad

EDMOND (Oct. 27) – Noah McQuigg, Peter Rolle and Gage McBride all scored falls to lead the Bronze team to a 42-6 rout over the Blue in Central Oklahoma's annual intrasquad dual Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

McQuigg used a big throw to score a first-period pin at 133 pounds, Rolle came out on top in a wild scramble to get a fall at the 1:56 mark in another 133-pound bout and McBride's takedown and pin ended a back-and-forth battle at 184 with nine seconds left in overtime.

The Bronze also got major decisions from 157 Anthony DesVigne, 197 Kalin Winkler and heavyweight Korbin McLaughlin in winning 10 of the 12 matches.

"Overall I thought it was a pretty good day for us," head coach Todd Steidley said. "Our shape was decent and I saw a lot of positives, but obviously there's a lot of room for growth.

"This is a hard-working group and we're excited about what we can do this season."

Four matches were decided by one point or in overtime.

Logan Farrell of the Bronze got a takedown 30 seconds into the sudden-victory period to claim an 8-6 win over Kurgan Cornwell in the opening bout of the dual and McBride got his OT fall over J.T. Stambeck after forcing the extra period on an escape with six seconds left that tied it 9-9.

In perhaps the feature match of the day, returning starter Brik Filippo of the Bronze edged senior transfer Zachary Moore 6-5 at 149 pounds. Moore tied the match on a takedown with 15 seconds remaining, but Filippo escaped two seconds later to go ahead and held on for the thrilling win.

The other one-point match was also decided in the final seconds when Hunter Jump of the Bronze scored a takedown at the buzzer to trim Dayton Garrett 4-3 at 165.

The Bronchos open the season next Sunday, hosting NCAA Division II rival Drury at 4 p.m.
