Bronchos Flatten Ouachita Baptist

EDMOND (Jan. 9) – Pin-happy Central Oklahoma scored four first-period falls and racked up nine bonus-point wins in a 50-6 shellacking of Ouachita Baptist Wednesday night at Hamilton Field House.

The No. 13-ranked Bronchos needed just 45 minutes to dispatch the No. 25 Tigers and improve to 6-2 on the season. UCO eclipsed the 50-point mark for just the 17th time in its 819-dual history.

UCO got falls from 133 Rio Zamora, 149 Ty Lucas, 174 Devin Crawl and 197 Colton Looper, while 141 Nate Keim and 157 Dayton Garrett had technical falls. Tanner Cole added a major decision at 125, with 165 Nick Speno and 184 Heath Gray picking up forfeits in the lopsided rout.

"We were aggressive and that's what I like to see," head coach Todd Steidley said. "Our guys did a good job putting guys in danger and scoring points. It's another step forward for us."

Zamora raced to a 12-1 lead before finishing off his first fall of the season at the 2:40 mark and Lucas zipped to an equally big lead, going up 14-1 prior to notching his first pin in 2:18.

Crawl gave up an early takedown in falling behind 2-0, but then reversed Justin Villegas to his back and ended it 2:12 into the opening period. Looper also gave up a quick takedown before scoring a reverse that turned into his team-leading eighth fall of the year after just 1:46.

Keim had three takedowns and a pair of four-point near-falls in a 15-0 technical fall, while Garrett racked up four near-falls and a pair of takedowns in a 16-1 romp that ended in the first period.

Cole's 10-2 rout was Central's closest match and it was no contest as the redshirt freshman piled up four takedowns.

The Bronchos don't compete again until going to Wichita, Kan. next Wednesday to take on Newman.
