Bronchos Earn Handful Of Top Performances at UCO Open

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Central Oklahoma track & field team put together a handful of top-five performances, including two first-place finishes, in the UCO Open Saturday at the University of Oklahoma's Mosier Indoor Facility.

Central Oklahoma got a first-place finish from Maddie Brown in the 3,000-meter race. The senior from Jenks, Okla. ran the course in 10:24.94, a whopping 46 seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Cameron University. Brown has now in the past two weeks, ran a 10:18 and a 10:24 in the 3,000 meters. Both are top-10 times in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association this season.

Brown then got another first-place finish in the Mile run. She ran it in 5:11.10, edging out a pair of close competition from Oklahoma Baptist.

A pair of Broncho jumpers alternated top performances in the field events. Chavon Reece finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.46 meters and Skylar Standokes finished third at 5.30 meters. In the triple jump, it was Standokes who took second place with a 10.58 meter leap, while Reece took third at 10.36 meters.

Reece would also get third in the 60-meter dash premlinaries Saturday before getting fourth in the finals. She ran both of those races in 7.87 seconds. Standokes finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdle prelims before finishing sixth in the finals.

Central got two more top-five performances Saturday out of junior Madelyn Caldwell. She finished third in the weight throw, hitting 14.94 meters and third in the shot put at 12.54 meters. Amber Covin and Luz Lugo-Ponce also tied for fifth in the pole vault at 2.58 meters.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to visit Lubbock, Texas next weekend for more Indoor competition before hosting another event, the UCO Alumni Classic, in Norman in two weeks.
