Bronchos Host UCO Open Saturday

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma will be back in action this weekend, with the Bronchos hosting Saturday the UCO Open at the Mosier Indoor Facility on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.

Field events will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, and track events will start at 11:30 a.m.

The Bronchos are sending, among their contingent, a duo of student-athletes that have already hit NCAA provisional qualifying marks this season.

Madelyn Caldwell has done it twice. The junior from Pauls Valley, Okla. has thrown a 13.66-meter mark in the shot put and a 17-meter mark in the weight throw. Both set her up as a potential NCAA Championships qualifier in March. Caldwell is aiming to better both of those marks Saturday, with the automatic qualifying mark of 15.59 meters (shot put) and 19.87 meters (weight throw) not far off of her range.

Abena Sey, a returning All-American for the Bronchos and just a sophomore, is trying to replicate the success she had last season outdoors during this indoor season. She jumped 1.71 meters in the high jump in Pittsburg, Kan. last month. 1.76 meters would automatically qualify her for nationals in March.

UCO has 14 others competing Saturday.

Chavon Reece will run in the 60-meter dash, as well as the long jump and triple jump. Bailey Christiansen will run the 400, the 60-meter hurdles, and the 4x400 relay. Erin Drewke will represent UCO in the 600-yard race.

Maddie Brown will run in both the 1-mile run and the 3,000-meter race. Arizona Hummingbird will join Brown in the mile as will Rebekah Brown. Jessica Cain and Sami Harp will both join Maddie  Brown in the 3,000 meters.

Savannah Reynolds, on the heels of her first collegiate win the high jump a week ago, will again compete in the event Saturday. She'll also run the 60-meter hurdles, the 4x400, and throw the shot put.

Skylar Standokes will join Christiansen and Reynolds in the 60-meter hurdles, as will Aysia Williams. Standokes will also compete the long jump and the triple jump. Williams will also effort the high jump and the shot put.

Amber Covin and Luz Lugo-Ponce will both compete in the pole vault. And Emilie Stufflebeam will join Caldwell, Williams and Reynolds in the shot put. Stufflebeam will also compete in the weight throw.

Central Oklahoma will send some of its troops to the Texas Tech Open in Lubbock, Texas next weekend before UCO hosts its second event, the UCO Alumni Classic, in Norman in two weeks.
