Audrey Campbell Takes Top Honors At John Jacobs Invite

NORMAN – The University of Central Oklahoma worked through soggy conditions at the annual John Jacobs Invitational this weekend at the University of Oklahoma and came away with a handful of solid performances despite the weather.

Audrey Campbell's 11:11 mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase was more than enough for a first-place finish at the DI-laden event. Campbell bested the competition by six seconds to take home top honors in the event. A senior from Oklahoma City, Campbell earned her best career mark in the event by nearly 20 seconds.

Campbell's cross country teammates also had a good showing in Norman this weekend. Maddie Brown collected a fourth-place finish in Friday's invitational 1500 with a time of 4:42, and Sheri Snyder wasn't far behind her in sixth place at 4:50. Savannah Waddell took sixth in the 5000-meters with a time of 19:03 Friday. On Saturday, Arizona Hummingbird took third in the 1500 with a time of 5:05.

All four distance runners hit their top mark of the season in their respective events.

Central also got top-five finishes in numerous other events. Miquel Roach finished third in the javelin throw, hitting 39.22 meters. Erin Drewke also earned a top-10 mark with her seventh-place 32.48-meter throw.

Abena Sey continued her strong freshman season in the high jump, taking fourth with a 1.65-meter mark. Sey is likely to be a national qualifier with her previous best 1.76-meter jump earlier this season.

Madelyn Caldwell rounded out the top-five performers for the Bronchos with a fifth-place showing in the discus throw. The sophomore hit 41.42 meters. Caldwell, like Sey, also has an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark already this season.

Central Oklahoma has a week off before heading to Kearney, Neb. for the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Outdoor Championships May 4-6.
