UCO Swept By Emporia State

EMPORIA, Kan. - The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team missed twice against Emporia State Monday, falling 14-6 and 5-3 in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader at Glennen Field.

The Bronchos are 28-14 on the season after the losses and 20-8 in league play. The losses mark the first MIAA series loss this season for Central. The Bronchos had won each of the first nine conference series it played this season.

Central got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first game Monday. Trae Smith hit an RBI-single to score Glenn Reeves, and Xavier Freeman hit an RBI-double to score Dayne Sommer

Austin Lambright got the start for the Bronchos Monday and in the bottom of the first, he allowed two unearned runs to tie the game. Lambright would go 4 1/3 in the effort, allowing only one hit. But he did allow six walks and another run in the fifth to give ESU a 3-2 lead.

Central responded, adding two more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to go up 6-3, but Emporia State would ding the Broncho bullpen for 11 combined runs in the bottom of the seventh and eight innings.

In the second game, JJ Rogers got the start for the Bronchos and allowed three earned runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings. J.D. Cameron gave up two unearned runs in 4 1/3 innings and Gaylon Viney kept Emporia at bay for a pair of innings.

Jake Dyer went 3-for-4 with a double and scored all three Broncho runs in the loss.

Central Oklahoma wraps up an eight-game homestand Tuesday, when the Bronchos visit Missouri Southern. UCO is back home for the remainder of the regular season after that, beginning with a three-game MIAA series against Missouri Western this weekend.
