Bronchos Bash Riverhawks

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team whipped Northeastern State 24-4 Wednesday in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rivalry matchup at Rousey Field.

UCO scored a season-high 24 runs on a season-high 25 hits to improve to 28-11 on the season. The Bronchos are also 20-5 in league play, which is good for first place. Northeastern is 19-16 overall and 10-12 in league play. Central also takes the season series with Northeastern, having now won the first two meetings, to move to a perfect 9-for-9 in MIAA series this season. The third and final game of the season between the schools is scheduled for April 25 in Edmond.

"We did a lot of things right today, and had a lot of things go right for us," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "It was kind of the opposite for them too. But I'm glad our guys came out with a lot of energy and focus and determination today."

Jake Dyer, hitting leadoff for the Bronchos Wednesday, took a swing at the first pitch he saw and smashed the first of his two home runs in the game. This became a theme as the Bronchos went on to hit six homers on the day.

Dyer finished 4-for-6 with two homers, a double, three RBIs and five runs scored - just a triple short of hitting for the cycle. He was 4-for-4 with two homers and a double and four runs scored with two outs in the top of the third inning.

Paul Kropf, who hit second in the lineup Wednesday, also went 4-for-6 and had a home run. He scored four runs and had three RBIs. Justin Brown, Xavier Freeman, and Anthony Alvarez also hit homers for the Bronchos, who tallied 13 extra-base hits in the game.

UCO's offense rallied behind another solid start for MIAA Pitcher of the Week Tyler Culver. The senior righty threw four innings and got the win thanks to the Broncho run-rule to improve to 7-0 on the season. Culver struck out four and allowed three of NSU's four runs.

Will Olds, J.D. Cameron and Ben Wusterbarth all came in for relief work. Cameron gave up a solo home run for NSU's fourth run in the bottom of the sixth.

Central heads to Emporia State this weekend for a three-game series. After a trip to Joplin, Mo. next week to close an eight-game road trip, the Bronchos return home for the remainder of the season.
