Campbell, Caldwell Lead Central Contingent in Shawnee

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma track & field team returned to action Saturday following a few weeks off but showed no signs of rust, as the Bronchos nabbed five top performances at the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational.

Audrey Campbell finished first in the steeplechase with a time of 11:42.84. Miquel Roach took top honors in the javelin throw, hitting a 39.66-meter mark. Madelyn Caldwell took first in both the discus throw (43.52m) and the shot put (12.90m). And Skylar Standokes leaped to a first-place finish in the triple jump with her 11.08 meter mark.

"The team did really well today," UCO head track & field coach Martha Brennan said. "There was some good competition out here and we haven't seen any live competition in a few weeks. We really are just getting started with outdoor season and I'm really proud of the way the team did today."

Central also got strong performances in the 1500 by Maddie Brown and Sheri Snyder. The two finished third and fourth respectively with times of 4:55.92 and 4:56.18.

Caldwell was dominant Saturday, adding a fifth-place showing in the hammer throw (40.65 meters) to her two first-place showings in the discus and shot put. UCO had more good fortune from some of its other throwers with Roach taking first in the javelin.

Standokes nearly had another title on the day, finishing second in the long jump with a 5.60 meter mark.

Central Oklahoma gets right back to the action next week, with some of the Bronchos making a short trek up Interstate 35 for the Cowley Country Multis on Wednesday, April 3.
