New Turf Goes In At Wendell Simmons Field

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team is eyeing its regular season opener in less than a week. The Broncho home-opener is a little more than one week away, which is just enough time for Hellas Construction to put the finishing touches on the new turf at Wendell Simmons Field.

"It's all coming together," UCO head coach John Martin said. "It'll be done a few days before our home-opener which will give us a little bit of time on the field before we play our first game. It looks great and we're really excited about this big step the program has taken."

Hellas Construction has spent the past several months working on the field. The old field – home to Broncho baseball for more than 50 years – was dozed and leveled and new artificial turf was installed. A new wall was also built.

The final touches are all that is left.
