Bronchos Nab Several Top-5 Marks in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma track & field team hosted the UCO Invitational Saturday at the Mosier Indoor Facility at the University of Oklahoma and the Bronchos were paced by a handful of top-five finishes in the event.

Freshman Skylar Standokes took second in the triple jump, Madelyn Caldwell and Amber Covin both took third in the weight throw and the pole vault respectively, and the Bronchos got eight more top-five finishes throughout the day.

"I think this was a good meet for us," UCO head track & field coach Martha Brennan said. "Some of our girls that have been here before did really well, and some our newcomers, which seems like most of the team, did really well for this being just their second ever college meet. I'm happy with the overall performance. We'll keep getting better from here."

Standokes had a standout day. The freshman from Duncan, Okla. took second place in the triple jump after a solid 10.64-meter leap. She also finished seventh in the long jump (5.10m) and helped the Bronchos to a ninth-place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:40.

Caldwell, UCO's top thrower, took third in the weight throw with a mark of 16.59 meters. The sophomore from Pauls Valley, Okla. just missed an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with her performance Saturday. Caldwell also took seventh in the shot put, throwing 12.18m in the finals.

Amber Covin, a junior from Edmond, Okla., took third in the pole vault, hitting 3.20 meters.

Central Oklahoma heads to Pittsburg State next weekend, but will be back in Norman for the following two Saturday's in February. UCO will compete in the J.D. Martin Invite on Saturday, Feb. 3, and again host a meet at Mosier on Saturday, Feb. 10.
