COMMERCE, Texas –
The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team takes the pitch Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against Texas A&M-Commerce in the second of two matches in Texas to open the season. UCO lost 3-0 to Angelo State on Friday in Commerce.

The Bronchos had an aggressive approach in their season debut Friday, but couldn't connect on 11 shots on the day. UCO managed five on goal.

"We did some of the things we need to do offensively to be effective, sometimes your shots just aren't there," UCO head coach Mike Cook said. "But we need to focus more on what we did defensively because Commerce is a good team and we can't afford to give them what Angelo State got."

Cook started freshman Kaitlyn Asher Friday. The newcomer from Bixby, Okla. made four saves in her debut, but faced seven shots on target. Angelo State was also slightly more effective with its attack, putting 7 of 9 shots on goal.

UCO has a history of a high-octane offense and is never gun-shy when it comes to getting shots off. As the Bronchos start to get a feel for the new season, the heavy load of shots will continue and should become better aimed. Eight different players took at least one shot – three players fired two shots – on Friday. The ball is moving and UCO's offense is ready to start putting points on the scoreboard.

The Bronchos will return home following Sunday's match, and will play one more away from home on Thursday, Sept. 7 in Weatherford against Southwestern Oklahoma State. UCO tied SWOSU last season 2-2 in Edmond.

Central opens the home slate of its schedule Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. against Oklahoma Christian.
