Bronchos win, tie, in doubleheader at Southeastern

| By:
DURANT, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma split a doubleheader against Southeastern Oklahoma State Tuesday, winning 8-6 in a seven-inning first game before tying 1-1 in an eight-inning second game that was suspended due to darkness.

UCO (13-3-1) hasn't tied a game since the 2007 season.

The Bronchos had to battle to get a win in the first game. Jaycee Parker got the start for Central, and the senior took some lumps. Parker was hit for four runs in 1 1/3 innings.

UCO had Parker's back though. The Bronchos jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the top of the second inning, and though Parker gave up two more in the bottom half of that inning, UCO kept it coming with the bats.

The Bronchos scored again in the third to make it 5-4, as well as another run in each the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Connor Sweeney came on for Parker in the second and threw two innings, also surrendering one run. Tabor Charles came on next and threw one inning and gave up one run. At that point it was 6-6.

After Greg Hyde made a relief effort, striking out three in 1 1/3, and the Broncho bats took a 7-6 lead, Hyde was up for the win.

UCO's final two runs gave the senior reliever his first win of the season.

Five Bronchos, Xavier Warren, Korey Floyd, Brent Washausen, Anthony Alvarez and Glen Reeves, collected two hits each in the first game Tuesday. Floyd was 2 of 4 on the day with two RBIs. Warren, Alvarez and Reeves also had one RBI each.

The second game didn't have as much offense.

J.J. Rogers got the start for the Bronchos and Southeastern managed a run in the bottom of the first. UCO only got four hits in the second game. Two of those came from Caleb Peters including his solo home run in the fourth inning, Central's lone run of the game.
In the eighth, still tied 1-1, the game was called due to darkness.

Central Oklahoma remains on the road but returns to conference action this weekend. The Bronchos travel to Warrensburg, Mo. for a three-game series with MIAA foe Central Missouri. The first game is Friday at 6 p.m., with games as well on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
