WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team split a doubleheader Friday against second-ranked Central Missouri in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

The Bronchos (14-4-1, 5-3) lost 6-3 in the first game before getting a 7-4 win in the second game. The teams will play a third game in the conference series either Saturday at 2 p.m. or Sunday at a time to be announced, contingent on the forecast of inclement weather in the area.

UCO, which is ranked 21st in the country, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first game Friday.

Jake Dyer led off with a single, and Korey Floyd followed by reaching base after being hit by a pitch. Caleb Peters then drove in the game's first run with an RBI single to right field.

Peters and Floyd both advanced one base on a wild pitch before Jon Kamies grounded out to the shortstop to score Floyd. Brent Washausen then did the same, grounding out to the second baseman as Peters scored.

But those three first-inning runs were the only the runs the Bronchos could put together in the game.
Central Missouri got one run back in the bottom of the first, scored four more in the bottom of the fifth, and one final run in the bottom of the eighth.

Holden Capps threw a complete game for the Bronchos in the losing effort, his first defeat of the season. Capps finished with eight innings pitched, all six runs were earned, and he allowed eight hits. Capps did record eight strikeouts too however, improving his season total to 33 in 32 innings pitched.

Dyer, Floyd, Peters, Kamies, Washausen and Anthony Alvarez each collected one hit for the Bronchos in the game. Those five hits were all UCO had.

Tyler Culver made his second start of the season in the second game Friday. The junior righty impressed again too, going 5 1/3 innings in getting UCO a split on the day.

Culver allowed one run in the first and two more in the second but settled in and finished allowing only five hits. He got some help from the Broncho bats too.

UCO scored two in the top of the first. Dyer led off with a single again, and this time scored after Floyd singled to left field. Floyd was thrown out at second on the play, but the Bronchos still had Xavier Warren on base, who after Dyer, was hit by a pitch. Kamies stepped up fourth for the Bronchos and reached on an error by the third baseman as Warren scored to make it 2-0 UCO.

Dayne Sommer scored a run in the top of the fourth for the Bronchos and Alvarez added another run for Central in the fifth.

UCO poured on three safety runs in the top of the ninth to close out the game before Gibson Russ came on to close. Russ got to fly-outs before striking out the final batter to get the Bronchos a win.
