LAWTON, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Cameron Tuesday afternoon.

The Bronchos are now 4-4 on the season after the loss.

UCO fell behind early losing two of three doubles points.

Alix Williams and Shali Schoepflin lost 8-4 to give Cameron the first points in the match. But Jenny Bond and Emilie Semo picked up an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles to keep make it 1-1.

Alli Hodges and Kirtana Bhat however, dropped the No. 1 doubles match in a grueling 9-8 decision and Cameron had two early points in the match at the break.

Cameron won at No. 4 to make it 3-1 after Mathilde Thibaudat beat Schoepflin 6-1, 6-3. UCO's deficit grew when Zhenia Shviadok, ranked 32nd in the country, handed Bhat her first loss of the season with a 6-1, 6-0 result. Cameron was up 4-1.

Semo got the Bronchos a point back with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles before Bond dropped another gut-wrenching match at No. 6.

Bond dropped the first set 6-2, but rebounded with a 6-2 win in the second set. Cameron's Viola Lugmayr proved too much in winning the third set to give Cameron a 5-2 lead and the match.

Williams defeated Samantha Wood 6-4, 6-2 in a big regional upset for the sophomore from Jenks, Okla.

Then in the final finish of the day, the 43rd-ranked Hodges took on 21st-ranked Puala Gutierrez at No. 1.

Hodges outlasted Gutierrez in the first set, wearing down her opponent as she so often does with a 7-5 win. Hodges didn't have as much trouble with a tired Gutierrez, putting her away 6-2 in the second set. Hodges improved to 8-0 on the season with the win.

Central Oklahoma plays at Oklahoma Baptist on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.
