LAWTON, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma women's tennis team Tuesday travels to Cameron for a non-conference contest. The match begins at 1 p.m.
The Bronchos (4-3) are in the midst of a five-game road trip. Despite a near-500 record for the Central, its top two players are performing at a high rate.
Alli Hodges is 7-0 this season and on Monday was named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Player of the Week. Ranked 43rd in the country, Hodges has won all seven of her No. 1 singles matches in straight sets.
Kirtana Bhat, Central's No. 2, is also 7-0 this season. Bhat had an argument for player of the week honors last week too. The sophomore did drop a set Friday at Midwestern State, but mounted a huge comeback, winning the second set 6-3 before winning a tiebreaking third set 18-16.
Cameron is 1-3 on the season. The Aggies beat Cowley County in the fall and are 0-3 this spring. Cameron has fallen to Oklahoma Baptist, St. Mary's, and Academy of Arts.
The Aggies best player this player this season has been their No. 2, Zhenia Shviadok. The 32nd-ranked player in the country is 4-0 on the season. Cameron's No. 1 Paula Gutierrez hasn't had the same fortune. Gutierrez, who is ranked 21st in the country, is 0-4 this season.
Tuesday is the second of five away from Edmond for the Bronchos. UCO has not played Cameron since 2012, when UCO hosted the Aggies but lost 6-3.
