UCO whips Cowley County

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma women's tennis team bounced back in style Wednesday with an 8-1 win over Cowley County.

The Bronchos (4-2) won all three doubles points to take an early 3-0 lead. UCO then won five of six singles matches to cruise to the win.

"I'm just glad to see the girls respond after last weekend," UCO head coach Jaron Maestas said. "It always boosts your spirits when you can get a win and hopefully that will help us moving forward. We have a tough slate ahead of us."

The Bronchos lost their only two matches of the season last week in Texas. Now UCO turns to a five-match road trip.

But Wednesday was all Bronchos.

Jenny Bond and Emilie Semo won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles. Alix Williams and Shali Schoepflin then won 9-7 at No. 2 before Alli Hodges and Kirtana Bhat won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Bhat was the first to finish her singles match, winning at the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-1 to improve to 6-0 on the season. Hodges then wrapped up a 6-0 record herself, winning at No. 1 6-1, 6-1 to secure the victory for the Bronchos as UCO went ahead in the match 5-0.

Williams picked up a win at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-1 and Bond won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 6. Semo won at No. 5 6-4, 6-2 to put UCO up 8-0 before Cowly County finally salvaged a point with a win at No. 5 over Schoepflin.
