NORMAN –
The University of Central Oklahoma women's track & field team is competing in the J.D. Martin Invitational Friday and Saturday at the University of Oklahoma.

Bailee Thomas and Ashley Hughes began the competition Friday afternoon in the women's pentathlon. The rest of the Bronchos will join the meet Saturday for other events.

Thomas finished 11th at the Boo Rogers Combined Events at Pittsburg State earlier this season. Hughes competed well at the Missouri Southern Open last weekend in Joplin, Mo.

The Bronchos will send a contingent of athletes to Norman Saturday for the event named after a familiar face at Central. Martin, the current Broncho head cross country coach and assistant track & field coach, is a former All-American athlete and legendary coach at OU.

Saturday's meet is the closest event the Bronchos will compete in in 2017, lending itself as the best opportunity to see UCO in action.

Teams competing in Norman this weekend include UCO and OU, Texas-Arlington, North Texas, Incarnate Word, Abilene Christian, and SMU.

The Bronchos head to Lincoln, Neb. next weekend for the Frank Sevigne Husker Open, back to Pittsburg State after that for the Gorilla Open, and wrap up indoor season at Kansas State's Steve Miller Open next month.
