EDMOND - Central Oklahoma played its first home soccer game of 2016 on Friday afternoon at Tom Thompson Soccer Field in Edmond and opened the home slate with a 2-1 win over Texas A&M Commerce.

Morgan Cherry scored her first goal of the season and Mikayla Lowery scored her second goal while Ally Salls was dominant in goal, making four saves to lead the Bronchos to their 12th win over Commerce in 17 meetings.

"It was good to get a win in front of our home crowd," Mike Cook said. The 19th year head coach is steadily approaching 300 career victories. Friday's win was No. 268.

Cherry scored in the first half off a rebound to put the Bronchos up 1-0. After the Commerce goalkeeper deflected a shot out, Cherry was there to knock in the score in the 23rd minute.

The Bronchos led 1-0 at halftime.

UCO had to fight off a tough Commerce attack in the second half. As time wound down, Lowery took advantage of a pass from Asha Haile and sent a beautiful strike from 25 yards out to put the Bronchos up 2-0.

Commerce finally got a shot past Salls in the 86th minute to pulll within a score, but couldn't get any better looks as time expired.

"Ally has done a great job in goal for us," Cook said. "She is making some big plays for us so far this season."

Salls has played 90 minutes in two of the Bronchos three games this season. She started and played 45 minutes in the other game and has totaled eight saves already this year.

UCO plays at home again on Sunday against Southwestern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m.
