Bronchos pick up win at Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR, Mo. - The University of Central Oklahoma women's soccer team picked up a 3-1 win against Southwest Baptist on Saturday the first Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association match of the season.

Camrie Hurst scored twice in the match for the Bronchos (5-2-1, 1-0-0). Asha Haile also tallied a goal, her team-leading fourth of the season.

"It's good to get a win in your first conference game," UCO head coach Mike Cook said. "That's how you want to start things off. I'm proud of the girls for the way they came out attacking."

Haile scored first for the Bronchos. In the 20th minute, a Southwest Baptist defender attempted to clear a ball and missed, allowing Haile to score the games opening goal.

Hurst would add to the lead for the Bronchos in the 26th minute on a header from Caroline Moore's corner kick. Southwest Baptist added its goal just before halftime to make it 2-1. 

Hurst would put the security goal on the board in the 64th minute. The sophomore defender put a shot on target from more than 20 yards out and nailed it to make it 3-1 Bronchos.

Ally Salls picked up the win in goal for the Bronchos after coming on as a sub at halfime with the game tied 1-1. Lexi Bates started the game for UCO, her second start of the season. She made three saves and allowed Southwest Baptist's lone goal in the 35th minute.


Haile's four goals leads the Bronchos now. Hurst has three and is tied for second on the team with Katie Killion.
