Bronchos play Southwestern Oklahoma State to draw

| By:
EDMOND - The University of Central Oklahoma played Southwestern Oklahoma State to a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon at Tom Thompson Soccer Field.

Katie Killion scored twice for the Bronchos, once in the first half and once in the second, to give Central a 2-0 lead. But Alimata Rabo would score two for Southwestern to tie it up just before the end of regulation.

Both teams mustered a few chances in each of the two, 15 minute overtime periods, but neither converted and the game ended in a tie for the first time between the two schools since they began playing in 1998.

"We played good," Head coach Mike Cook said. "But I'm disappointed because we've got to finish. To be up two goals in the end of the game like that and not come away with a win is disappointing."

Ally Salls played 120 minutes in goal for the Bronchos and made 10 saves. The sophomore goalkeeper had eight saves in two and a half games before Sunday.

"There are still some good things to take from this game," Cook said. "We're still a young team and it's still really early in the season. We're still unbeaten to. But we should've been able to get a win today."

In the 22nd minute, Morgan Cherry took the ball toward the Southwestern goal in an attack and took a shot that was deflected. Mikayla Lowery found the ball and passed it over to Killion, who slid home the score.

In the 65th minute, Lowery was charging down the right side of the field when she sent a cross in front of the Southwestern goal. Killion awaited, and knocked in the score. Killion now leads the Bronchos in goals scored this season with three.

The Bronchos travel to Northeastern State on Friday to take on the Riverhawks. UCO is back home at Tom Thompson Soccer Field next Sunday, Sept. 18 against Southwest Baptist. Both matches are non-conference games though both are against teams from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
