Bronchos Stumble Against ECU

Natasa Brnovic
EDMOND (Feb. 12) – A promising start turned sour for Central Oklahoma Thursday afternoon as the Bronchos opened the season with a 6-3 loss to East Central Thursday afternoon.

UCO led 2-1 after doubles play, but the Tigers took five of the six singles bouts to pull out the win in Cari Groce's head coaching debut with the Bronchos.

"We did a good job in doubles, but just didn't play well enough in singles," said Groce, a 20-year coaching veteran in her first year at the UCO helm.  "Hopefully we can learn from this and come out stronger tomorrow."

The Bronchos go on their first road trip Friday, traveling to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on Hardin-Simmons Friday afternoon and Midwestern State Saturday morning.

Alina Gorina and Olya Burak teamed up for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles while Lauren Allison and Natasa Brnovic rolled to an 8-2 triumph at No. 3 to stake the Bronchos to an early lead, but ECU quickly turned the tide.

Brnovic had the lone singles win for UCO, prevailing 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5.
