EDMOND (Sept. 7) –
Central Oklahoma never got its offense untracked and ended up dropping a season-opening 3-0 decision to No. 15-ranked Minnesota State-Mankato Sunday afternoon at sun-splashed Tom Thompson Field.

The Bronchos had just one good scoring chance in the first half as the Mavericks jumped out to a 2-0 lead and MSU ended up holding a 20-7 shot advantage in improving to 2-0.

"We didn't do a very good job creating many chances on offense and we also had some defensive lapses that cost us," head coach Mike Cook said.  "It's a disappointing start, but we can't hang our heads and have to bounce back quickly."

UCO returns in action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game at near-by Oklahoma Christian before returning home Friday to host Southwestern Oklahoma at 4 p.m.

The Mavericks, who opened their season Friday with a 1-0 win at Southwestern Oklahoma, scored off a corner kick just six minutes into the game.

The Bronchos nearly tied it in the 20th minute when freshmen speedster Lexi Carroll beat three defenders downfield before getting off a shot from 20 feet away, but MSU's goalkeeper made a superb save and the Mavericks scored less than a minute later to make it 2-0.

UCO had a flurry of activity on the offensive end in the opening minutes of the second half, but were unable to convert anything and MSU ended the scoring in the 64th minute.

Freshman Elle Stover went the distance in goal for the Bronchos and made eight saves.
