ST. CHARLES, Mo. (April 11) – Central Oklahoma issued seven walks, hit three batters and committed four errors in dropping a 7-4 decision to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association foe Lindenwood Friday night.
Four of the seven runs the Lions scored either reached via a walk, hit batter or were scored due to a defensive miscue.
"Tonight was a complete disappointment in all three phases of the game," head coach Dax Leone said. "Free baseball will get you beat time and time again. We have preached this motto to our players since August. Baseball is the ultimate game about the players."
Ricky Reeves, normally one of the UCO's more reliable starting pitchers, could not make it out of the third inning and suffered his first setback of the season to fall to 7-1. Reeves allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in just 2 2/3 innings of work.
The Bronchos scored first on a sacrifice fly by Matt Johnson, who drove in three of UCO's four runs. The Lions quickly tied it at 1-1 in the second before the Bronchos reclaimed the lead on an RBI single by Dilon Argo in the third.
Lindenwood scored two runs in the bottom of the third to go up 3-2 and then added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to go up 7-2.
The Bronchos loaded the bases in the ninth for Johnson, who came through with a two-out, two-run single to pull UCO within 7-4, but Ross Rose flew out to end the game.
The teams wrap up the four-game league series Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
