UCO Stays Perfect

Lauren Allison
ADA, Okla. (Feb. 23) – Unbeaten Central Oklahoma pulled out a trio of three-set singles victories to subdue intrastate rival East Central 6-3 here Sunday afternoon.

The No. 39-ranked Bronchos improved to 4-0 with the win in a match that saw five of the six singles bouts require three sets to decide.

UCO got three-set wins from Alina Gorina, Anna Braun and Lauren Allison, with Allison rallying for tough 7-5, 7-5 victories in the last two sets after falling 6-4 in the first.  Emilie Semo had a 6-3, 6-0 win.

The Bronchos took two of the three doubles matches, with Gorina and Semo teaming up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 and Allison and Petra Pesic an 8-2 rout at No. 3.

"It was a very close match and at one point we had five singles matches all in the final set so it could have really gone either way," head coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey said.  "Our girls were tough and they were able to pull off the wins we needed to come out on top in a regional match."

It was the first of six straight road matches for UCO, which goes to Bethany to take on Southern Nazarene Thursday at 2 p.m.
