Bronchos Prevail Over Dallas Baptist

EDMOND (Feb. 15) – Alina Gorina's come-from-behind win at No. 1 singles capped a Central Oklahoma comeback that lifted the Bronchos to a tough 5-4 win over Dallas Baptist 5-4 Saturday afternoon.

UCO dropped two of the three doubles matches to fall behind 2-1 before rallying to take four of the six singles bouts in winning its second match in two days at the wind-swept UCO Courts.

Gorina dropped the first set 6-1 to DBU's Leah Rutt before storming back to take the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 in claiming the decisive point.

The Bronchos also got straight-set singles wins from Petra Pesic, Kristin Richardson and Emilie Semo. Pesic and Lauren Allison teamed up for a crucial point at No. 3 doubles, pulling out an 8-6 victory.

"I knew it would be a tough match as we always have great battles with Dallas Baptist," head coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey said. "I'm so glad that after four hours in very windy conditions our girls were able to prevail.

"We really fought hard for every point and it was a great win for us. We played well and will just keep improving our doubles play and keep getting better with every match this season."

UCO wraps up a season-opening three-match homestand Friday, hosting Cowley County Community College at 1:30 p.m.
