Bronchos Sweep Northwest Missouri

MARYVILLE, Mo. (Oct. 24) –
Barbara Jackson had 21 kills to spark Central Oklahoma to a hard-fought sweep of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Northwest Missouri here Friday night.
 
The Bronchos earned a 30-28, 29-27, 25-19 victory in improving to 21-4 on the season and 10-4 in the league.  UCO moves on to St. Joseph, Mo. Saturday to take on conference co-leader Missouri Western at 7 p.m.
 
"We made a lot of big plays at the end of the first two sets and came out with a good win," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "It was a battle, but we kept our composure and did what we needed to do."
 
Jackson hit .385 while collecting her match-high 21 kills and adding 10 digs.  Bonnie Vernon added eight kills, Allison Barr seven and Sabetha Young six, while Katy Davis had 43 assists.
 
UCO had a 23-20 lead in the first set, but the Bearcats came back to tie it and eventually went ahead 28-27 while holding serve.
 
Jackson kept the Bronchos alive with a kill that tied it and then made a solo block to give UCO a 29-28 lead before an NWMSU hitting error ended it.
 
It was another back-and-forth battle in the second set, though the Bronchos appeared in control after Jackson made two service aces in a 7-0 run that gave UCO a 19-14 lead.
 
The Bearcats rallied once again, pulled even at 23-all and then going ahead at 26-25 and again at 27-26.  The Bronchos responded with three straight points, tying it on a NWMSU service error before getting a Barr kill and a combined block from Barr and Davis.
 
UCO fell behind early in the third set and it was tied 13-13 before Vernon had three kills and a block in an 8-1 run that gave the Bronchos a  21-14 lead en route to ending the match.
