ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 9) –
No. 16-ranked Central Oklahoma split a pair of games on the final day of the Whitten Inn Classic here Saturday.

The Bronchos opened up a 7-0 lead en route to a 10-5 victory over Eastern New Mexico in their opener before No. 22-ranked and host Abilene Christian pulled out a 6-5 win in the final game on a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

UCO finished 3-1 in the season-opening event after sweeping both teams Friday.

“It was a pretty good opening weekend for us, but I didn't like ending it the way we did,” UCO coach Genny Stidham said.  “We played pretty well in stretches, especially this early in the season, but made some mistakes we'll have to correct.”

The Bronchos had 11 hits in the win over ENMU, getting two-hit outings from Ally Dziadula , Hannah Justus, Kacie Edwards, Brooke Zukerman and Tori Collet.

Edwards' run-scoring single gave UCO a 1-0 lead in the first and Dziadula drilled a three-run homer in the second to make it 4-0.  Zukerman added a solo shot in the third and the Bronchos added two unearned runs in the fourth for a 7-0 lead.

The Zias pushed across all five of their runs in the fifth to get within 7-5, but UCO answered back with three in the sixth as Zukerman had an RBI single and two runs scored on a throwing error.

Nicole Workman picked up the pitching win, giving up four hits in four shutout innings.

ACU jumped on top 4-0 in the second game, with the Bronchos getting one run back in the fourth on Collet's RBI double before tying it in the fifth on a two-run homer by Edwards and solo drive by Workman.

The Wildcats scored one in the sixth to go up 5-5 and UCO tied it again in the top of the seventh on Edwards' solo homer – her second of the game and fourth of the weekend.

But ACU came through in its final at bat with a two-out solo shot to win it.

Edwards went 3-for-4 with three RBI to pace UCO's 11-hit attack, while Dziadula and Workman had two hits apiece.

The Bronchos go back on the road next weekend, traveling to Tucson, Ariz. For the prestigious NFCA Leadoff Classic.
